QUICKSILVER SHOWSTOPPER
STUD DOG EMERITUS
1995 to 2008

It is with great sadness that we write that our family’s dog Quicksilver Showstopper passed away early this year. At almost age 13, Stopper was never ill a day in his life until he was diagnosed with cancer just after the 2007 Silverwood. Unfortunately, the spread of the disease was rapid. We held on to him as long as we could, but in January we made the difficult decision to let him go before undue suffering occurred.
Stopper brought great joy to our family. Like many dogs he was a model that we as people should aspire to. As in all things, Stopper dealt with his disease with great strength and a wagging tail. He was most certainly the bravest and most noble dog we have ever known. He loved us and our children Erin, Rachel, and Cody with great steadfastness and trust.
Many of you knew him in different ways… a few personally, some by his ring achievements, many by his great production as a stud dog.
Stopper had a brief show career, highlighted by Dr. Franne Berez and Dr. David Harris awarding him Reserve Best White Dog at the 1996 Silverwood just after his 17-month birthday. We decided to retire him on that high note. He came back into the Silverwood ring at age nine at the 2004 Silverwood, missing the finals but proudly displaying his health, vigor and virtues to all at ringside.
Stopper was by our own CH Quicksilver Moustache Pete ROM (1992 Silverwood Best Colored Dog) and Cheryl Clemmensen’s daughter of CH Magor Matinee Idol ROM (1992 Silverwood Winner). The combination of this regal pedigree and resulting tremendous breed virtues proved
Stopper to be one of America’s great stud dogs. Siring no less than eight ROM Champions, he has been awarded the prestigious title of Stud Dog Emeritus.
It has been at our breed’s greatest weekend, Silverwood, where Stopper has truly shined. He has sired seven dogs that have reached the Silverwood finals, some for multiple times. Silverwood weekend wins of his children have included a Reserve Silverwood Winner, a National Specialty BOV Winner, and a National Specialty BOS to BOB winner. His grandchildren’s achievements include a Brood Bitch Emeritus title, two National Specialty BOV winners, a Reserve Silverwood Winner, two Irene Mann Trophy Winners in the first four years it has been offered, and this past year’s Silverwood Winner.
…and the legacy continues. Stopper’s first frozen semen breeding (to Linda Maddox’s CH Stellar’s Pictures of You ROM) has produced our own CH Stellar’s Quicksilver Showshocker ROM. The hottest young dog of early 2008, Shocker has recently completed his AKC Championship in four shows at 8 months of age, completed his ROM in five shows at 10 months of age, and won BOV, BISS, BISS, and BOV in his first four outings as a special.
Some dogs capture our hearts more than others. We keep few boy dogs at our house; the ones that we do become kings at Quicksilver. Stopper will always be remembered along with his dad Pete and his great-grandfather The Anvil as kings of our hearts. We miss them all every day.
